Favorite Thing #20 — Sourwood Inn
Austin I just returned from three days in this blissful place. This is a twelve room inn situated up in the mountains outside of Asheville. It is perhaps the most delightful place I have a ever stayed. Every room has its own wood burning fireplace, balcony with mountain views, and large tub and shower also with mountain views. It is a haven for rest, relaxation, and time together. They serve a delicious breakfast every morning and have a fantastic dinner available on weekend evenings. We choose to eat there every chance we got this stay.
Each room is unique, and you can find out more about them here. We’ve had the pleasure of staying in Rooms 12, 6, and 11 over our last 2 trips. Room 6 was definitely our favorite. Here is a picture of the beauty. I loved being able to sit by the fire and also see the mountains out the window at the same time. Very delightful.
We also had a chance to peek our heads into a few empty rooms when they were being cleaned out on Sunday and we think we’d love to try Room 5 or 10 next time. So just a heads up if you plan a trip, my preference order to try to book in the future would be Room 5, 6, 10, then 12.
The Inn has a beautiful back deck with fire pits where you can enjoy meals or even just a book or game. This is the view from the main deck.
The property also has some of its own short, easy hiking trails that make for a delightful morning or afternoon walk.
The Inn is about a 20 minute drive up the mountain from Asheville. So if you visit, here are a few of our favorite Asheville things:
Food– Biscuit Head and White Duck Taco and Luella’s BBQ
Hikes– Lookout Mountain in Montreat, Craggy Gardens on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Big Creek (in the Smokies on our way to Asheville from Cincinnati)
As a bonus on this trip, we got to see this Mama and her babies on our way up the mountain to the Inn. Quite a surprising find.
If you have a chance to get away for a few days and spend some time building into your marriage, this is an amazing spot. We can’t wait to go back again.
