Favorite Thing #22 — Christmas Nights of Lights (COVID edition)
Y’all, we have officially been under COVID quarantine for 12 days. We’ve been in the house even longer and we still have a few days to go. I know many of you can relate to this. 7 people and 2,000 square feet, it was challenging at times. Overall though, it has been full of extra family fun and memories. When we asked our kids what they would look back on this year and remember (a Thanksgiving tradition) they all said, COVID Thanksgiving. It was different, there were a lot of cancelled plans and tears. It was hard, but it was also good.
All of that being said, it’s easy to feel cooped up after so many days in one place, so my favorite thing for this week is the Christmas Nights of Lights at Coney Island. This is something that we were able to safely do while we were under quarantine and the kids LOVED it. It is very well done with lights timed to music. It was $30 for our carful (or it is $7/person). These days with this many people in our family, $30 doesn’t seem too expensive for a fun Christmas event–especially when you can’t do anything else. So, if you find yourself trapped in COVID quarantine or just need an activity where everyone stays in one enclosed space, I highly recommend it!
Tips: I’ve heard it is very crowded on weekends and the wait time can be long. We arrived around 5:10 p.m. and were the 3rd car in line. We picked up takeout on the way and handed out food once we arrived. It was a fun dinner in the car together. They started letting us in around 5:45 p.m., so our wait was not very long. I packed hot chocolate (there was only one disastrous spill) and candy canes that I handed out once we started driving through. It was great fun. I don’t wish COVID quarantine upon any of you, but if you find yourself in that situation this December, Christmas Nights of Lights in a great option.
